Paying for an education these days requires a little creative financing. Loans may be too difficult to get, and scholarships may only pay for part of your schooling. One of the best ways to pay for college is to do it the old-fashioned way. Set a goal, make a plan, and start saving your money.

Today’s technology careers are varied, and so are your education options. Some jobs need only an associate’s degree, so you don’t need to try to finance four years if two years will get you started. You can always finish the four-year degree later, once you’re working and saving money.

Saving money can be a real challenge for some people.  You can protect your hard-earned tuition savings by putting that money on a vision prepaid card. Set up automatic tuition payments that draft directly from the card. Put the card away so that you aren’t tempted to use it for something else. In fact, prepaid cards are a great way to manage your money. You can have one for tuition, one for housing expenses, and one for fun. You decide the limit, and you can’t spend more than what’s loaded on the card.

The more you can cut your school debt, the better. Try to graduate with a clean financial slate so that you’re not burdened with the worry of making high-interest payments. Put your mental energy into your new career, and make your education something that makes you feel proud because you accomplished it with a good financial plan in place.

What Information Is Needed When Creating Note Cards for Research

One of the most common ways to take research notes for educational papers or term papers is to use a note card system. However, in order to make the note card system work it must contain all the information that the researcher needs to create an informative paper.  The key to getting the information that a researcher needs is to take proper notes on the note cards. Here is a look at the information that any researcher should take down on note cards in order to create helpful note cards.

Source Information. It is important to make sure that you write down all the source information. This should include the title of the book, author of the book, page number where the information is found and year of publication. If it is a website you should write down the direct URL. If it is an article in an academic journal make sure you write down the title of the journal and the title of the article. This information will come in handy should you need to reference it when writing the paper.

The Information. The amount of information that you write is solely dependent upon your style of researching. Some people find that they need to write out all the information word for word, while others just need to take short hand notes for their research. Make sure that you write a bit about the information so it is available when you go to write the paper. Make sure that you only include one idea or thought on a note card as it can get confusing if more than one piece of information appears on a card.

Number the Cards. Numbering the cards is important so that you know how much information you are gathering and what order you are gathering it in. A small number at the top of a note card will make a world of difference when you are researching.

Caught up in Your Career

Have you ever heard the expression “you are married to your career”. In so many cases people feel that if they are not tied to their work there is someone there that is ready to take their place. The truth is there is always someone that can step in and take your place.

Years ago major companies started sending their top executives on long extended vacations, forcing them to leave work because so many reports where coming out that the average executive was so burned out they were not performing at their maximum potential.

The truth can be said about any position not just top executives. When you work so much and carry over vacation time year over year it does no one any good. Not the company and especially not your family who is probably suffering the most from an absentee spouse, or father or mother.

Someone once asked the question, if you new you had 3 more days to live, would you ask to work extra time at your job or would you spend that time with the ones you love the most? Easy answer.

However getting caught up in your career is very easy to do as you always believe there will always be time to take the family on that vacation that you have been putting off or get to you child’s next event of next year there will be another anniversary and you can make up for it then.

The truth is there is never enough time and that is why we get caught up in our careers and if you don;t make the time for fun and family know one else will. So make the time and I promise there will be enough work to go around when you get back from that vacation, however you will be much more prepared to tackle the challenge after a good few days of rest and relaxation.

The Importance of a Classroom Size

In many cities in many schools around this country over crowed classroom size has become a serious problem in our public school system. In the county where I now live there is a law that states when the nineteenth student enters the room an entire new classroom and teacher must be added.

This has not always been the case just last year there were twenty six students in my daughters classroom. This creates an environment where students do not get the attention or one on one time they need to properly gather their education.

Students with a higher capacity for learning are being left alone to fend for themselves where the attention is being given to those that are struggling just to keep up. This by no means is fair to those that are in a position to further their studies and grow at a much more faster rate.

And what happens to those students if they are being given the proper allotment of time, what happens to those students who need the extra time and attention just to keep up. Well they begin to fall farther and farther behind in their studies.

I believe the county got it right in maintaining classroom size and keeping in within the realm of the teacher to adequately teach those student in their classroom and assign the proper attention to each individual student. Understanding that this costs money and more classrooms and teachers will lead to asking for higher taxes is a double edge sword. However it is a problem that needs to be addressed and was.

In your community if you are seeing the same problems with the over crowding address it and bring it to the attention of your local congressman or woman and make your voice heard. Your child’s future depends on it.

The Importance of a High School Education

The year is 2011 and to fill out an employment application is one of the toughest things to do without an education. Some will argue that a high school education won’t get you a job that’s better than working at McDonalds. Don’t believe it and don’t sell yourself short.

Yes many employers are looking for higher educated candidates with bachelor or even masters degrees. However there is still that part of the workforce that are needed in skilled jobs that can be trained instead of taught in a college classroom.

These employers however want to know that you can be taught and that you do have the resolve to stick something out until you are given the proper training to make it in your new field. Never underestimated what a high school education is all about. It is much more than learning what is just in your history class it is what does this person consider to be important and what is their tolerance to training.

Some one once said high school is the best four years of your life, well who ever said that didn’t have much of a life after high school or wasn’t paying attention in class. High school is there to prepare you for the best years of your life. Your high school teachers are what hopes to be the first in a long line of mentors for your future.

High school is your last line of defense into the real world. Yes enjoy the time; only understand that this is simply a preparation of what is yet to come only on a much smaller scale.

All and all those that do make it out of high school with a degree and either move into the workforce or go directly to college they will soon realize that it wasn’t the best years of their lives, it was their easiest. Enjoy have fun and prepare yourself for the ride to come.

Are Teachers Under Paid?

How many arguments can be made about whether teachers are under paid or even overpaid. What do you teach, how many students in your class, do you work nine months or the entire year? All good questions to factor into the equation to debate the argument.

The bottom line is teachers are the life line of our youth in this country and the level of education they receive is crucial to what our country and economy will look like in ten or twenty years from now.

You can not say teachers are under or over paid unless you sit down with e very teacher and evaluate their performance in the classroom and the impact they have on their students. However if you can do that then i would be willing to guess every teacher would probably earn a different salary.

How do you compensate for the impact a teacher has on the life of a student? Anyone in human resources and accounting can figure out what to pay an individual for giving out and grading tests but how do you pay on the emotional curve. You don’t and you can’t, that is the problem with the system.

Performance based pay is the wave of the future, if you can produce you get paid, if you can’t well then you don’t get paid as much or you don’t have a job. This is how it works in private schools and this is why private education costs more. Private schools attract higher quality teachers that provide greater and better results. Come full circle this is why some parents pay taxes to send their children to public school buy opt out and pay even more and they end up going to a private school.

At the end of the day under paid or over paid is all relevant to what your children are getting out of their classroom. Figure out this mathematical equation and you will be able to fix the public school system.

Educational Tips: Different Types of Writing Assignments

A writing assignment might just feel like a regular writing assignment but there are actually different types of writing assignments. There are three different types of essays and writing assignments that are commonly assigned to high school and college students. These writing assignments include an expository, persuasive and a position essay. It is helpful to understand the difference between the three writing assignments so that you can better prepare your paper should you be assigned these types of essays.

Persuasive Essay. The persuasive essay is intended to change the opinion of the reader. It is written in a way that takes a stance on an issue and presents facts. The common set up for a persuasive essay includes an introduction where you talk about what you are presenting and where you stand on the issue, the body of the essay where you present facts and supporting information to your stance and a conclusion where you present your stance again. When writing a persuasive essay make sure you put the information in order of importance.

Expository Essay. Expository essays are where you explore a theory and present facts on it. An expository essay usually includes a thesis in the introduction and the rest of the paper is written to support or deny the thesis. The conclusion of an expository essay will reinforce the thesis and what the topic of the paper is about.

Position Essay. Positions essays are similar to persuasive essays because they allow you to take a stance on an issue. However, unlike persuasive essays you are not trying to change the opinion of the reading. Instead you are just presenting the facts on an issue from one side. There should be no emotions or first person statements in these types of essays. Instead just stick to facts and statistics to help you present your point of view.

Educational Tips: How to Start a Writing Assignment

Writing assignments are a major part of your academic career. In fact, you have probably been doing basic writing assignments from the moment you learned to write. With the commonality of writing assignments it is essential that you learn how to tackle a writing assignment so that they aren’t so difficult when you are assigned them. Whether you are doing a writing assignment for middle school, high school or college these writing tips will help you tackle that writing assignment and get it done.

Pick a Topic. Many writing assignments have pre-assigned topics. However, if you do not have a topic it is important that you pick a topic. Try brainstorming ideas for your paper. This will help you come up with several ideas on what to write about.

Take a Stance. After you have picked a topic it is important that you decide how you want to write the paper. You need to choose a stance on the topic and stick to it. If you had to brainstorm to pick a topic this can help you decide what stance you are going to take with the paper. If you didn’t brainstorm you can brainstorm ideas for your paper. Start by writing down all the ideas and ways you can write about your topic and then pick the one you wish to write on.

Research the Topic. Once you decide your stance on the paper you need to start researching for information to support your opinion. Notecards, notebooks and other paper forms are a great way to write down information that you will use in your paper. Remember you don’t always need information that supports your opinion but you do need facts that come from a reliable source.

Create an Outline. Create an outline of how you want to write your paper. This will help you once you go to actually write the paper as it will already be all laid out for you.

A Look at Distance Learning For Master’s Degrees

It used to be if you wished to receive a Master’s Degree you had to find some way to fit in all the classes into your busy schedule. However, many colleges and universities are turning to distance learning education as a way to offer Master’s Degrees to the students.

Distance learning allows students to take part in classes regardless of where the student may be located. This means that students could be halfway across the globe and still take part in the classes. Distance learning classes rely upon web cameras, email and message boards as a way for students in the class to communicate with each other and the professors that teach the classes. There are both disadvantages and advantages to distance learning.

The main advantage of distance learning is that it allows students to have a bit of flexibility in their schedule. They are not required to travel to and from classes and can just log into their computer and take part in the lectures. This flexibility allows students to have second jobs and even allows parents to get their Master’s Degree because they can do it straight from home.

The main disadvantage of distance learning includes the lack of interaction with students. Since distance learning is heavily reliant upon the Internet and internet communication there is very little social interaction. It is believed that classroom environments thrive on social interaction and that could be lacking in a distance learning course. However, distance learning students disagree with this disadvantage stating that it depends on the students in the classroom and there are plenty of physical classrooms that lack social interaction.

While there are disadvantages and advantages to distance learning it is still becoming a very popular way for students to achieve their Master’s Degree. The flexibility allows students to achieve their Master’s Degree when they would normally have to give up on getting the degree due to the conflicting schedule.

Research Method: The OneNote System

Before technology the traditional way to take notes including taking a stack of note cards and writing out the information that was needed in long hand. While many researchers prefer to use the note card method many have switched to a more technologically advanced method and use the computer. A software system known as OneNote allows researchers to take the notes and organize the information that they need for a project all on the computer.

The OneNote note taking system is a software program that was developed by Microsoft. It allows researchers to gather almost every piece of information that they could need into one computer program and keep everything organized. Here is a look at some of the features that OneNote offers researchers.

Ability to Store Information. The main purpose of the OneNote software program is the ability to store information into the system. This information can range from detailed notes to audio files and even video files. No longer is there a need to have to save a URL you can just download the file and save it to the computer for future reference.

Organizational Function. The OneNote program allows researchers to store multiple notes for multiple projects all in one system. There is a complex storage system that will allow users to create different projects within the system. That means if they need to pull up information from one project they are not sorting through information from another project. This function allows researchers to organize themselves as well as the information that they gathered.

Inventory Option. The OneNote program has a function that allows researchers to create an inventory list. This means if there is a piece of information or a question that the researcher feels isn’t answer it can be placed in the inventory list and referenced later on. This helps keep research flowing and organized.
