For the last several years, many parents have chosen to home school their children rather than send them to public or private schools. In the beginning, it seemed to be mostly certain religious sectors that did this because they did not want their children exposed to more secular environments. There were also many legal issues for these parents at first.

Soon, though, the idea of home schooling started to catch on in more households. The reasons for this were many and varied, depending on which set of parents you talked to about it. Many parents felt that their children were not getting a quality education from the schools they were attending. Others had a “problem” child that exhibited behavior issues at school and it was just easier to keep this under control by teaching this child at home.

As time went on, there were incidents of violence in schools of such massive proportions that students were being shot, stabbed and otherwise harmed while at school. In looking deeper, the problem of bullying turned up. It was this issue that caused many of the students that went on these rampages to finally crack. How could parents be sure that their children were being treated well and were not in any physical danger at school?

The answer to this question for many parents was to simply start teaching their children at home. This was the best way they could ensure the safety of their children as well as being certain that they were not being bullied and otherwise mistreated by other students. In the home environment, the children are loved, safe, and encouraged to learn.

For a large number of families, home schooling has proven to be the best way to do things. There will always be people that disagree with anything out of the norm. However, there are many happy, well-adjusted and well educated children these days due to home schooling.

The majority of children that are not home schooled attend either a public school or a private school. While both of these learning institutions do basically the same thing, which is to provide the children attending them an education, there are still some vast differences between the two types of schools. Which one you will choose for your children typically depends on several factors.

Public schools are there for anyone to attend. Yes, there will be fees involved, and in many parts of the country, uniforms are required. However, even if you cannot afford some of the fees that come with attending a public school, your children will still not be denied an education. There are various programs that will help in purchasing supplies and uniforms as well as paying assorted fees. Most public schools also offer a free lunch program for those children that cannot afford to pay for lunch.

The classrooms in public schools hold a large number of students each. In some cases, it is difficult for the teachers to reach all of the students to make sure they understand what is being taught. Public schools also tend to have a high amount of discipline problems and troublesome students.

Private schools require a tuition fee just to attend them. This fee generally does not include anything else such as books and uniforms. The fee is just for the privilege of walking into the building. Classes are usually smaller, which makes it easier for teachers to reach all of their students. There are still some discipline issues in private schools, but they do not seem to be as numerous. This is most likely due to having fewer students enrolled.

Private schools and public schools can both offer a quality education. However, in the end, it totally depends on whether or not the student wants the education as to the quality received.

It is a well-known fact that education is becoming more and more costly every day. This is even true in the public schools that kids attend now. There are such things as uniforms, supplies and text book fees along with a myriad of other things that end up being pretty expensive for the parents that are expected to shell out this money. It is even worse for parents with more than one child in school. How on earth will they ever be able to pay for college?

Fortunately, such things as grants and scholarships now exist that many students can take advantage of. Full scholarships, however, are quite rare and are usually awarded only to the brightest of the bright. While saving for college expenses, many families cut back on such things as luxury items. They may also try to lower their rent or mortgage costs by living in a less expensive part of town. Transportation does not have to be provided by the most expensive top of the line automobile made. In cities and towns that offer public transportation, it can sometimes be less expensive than owning a car and having to pay for things like insurance, fuel, and maintenance. If you must own a car, however, an older, but well maintained, model may work just fine. Your insurance should cost less, too, on an older model.

Food is something that is necessary, but there are so many ways to cut food costs now. Cheaper recipes, coupons, and generic items all make for an easier way to save money when it comes to feeding a family. It also means that much more money that can be put away for a college education.

A lot of people have opted to further their education by doing it from home rather than enrolling in a college and attending a schedule of classes daily. Distance learning, or correspondence learning, can be the answer for people that have busy schedules and hectic lives. This method of taking classes allows students to study at their own pace and create their own schedule for it.

Distance learning schools have evolved quite a bit over the last several years. Now you can even obtain a doctorate degree or become a nurse by studying right from the comfort of your own home. There are very few things that cannot be studied through a distance learning school. Depending on what you are interested in, you will most likely find more than one school will offer you what you need.

Obviously, distance learning can be less expensive than attending a college in person. You can also qualify for financial aid through distance learning schools so that makes it even easier to meet the tuition requirements. When you knock off such things as dormitory fees and meal charges, you can save even more money. You will be paying for things like books and the instruction materials that are sent to you, but it will still be quite a savings.

The major drawback to distance learning is that you must make very sure that the school you choose is an accredited one. Many of these types of schools will claim to be, but you can ask for proof of this or simply do your own research into whether or not this school will get you into the career of your choice. Not all distance learning schools are great and they will not all get your hired doing what you want to do, even following your graduation or certification from the school. So do your research.
